What is Peshtemal
Turkish cotton gets softer and more absorbent with use. It is well known that the best and finest of linens come from Turkey or are derived from Turkish cotton. A pestemal, more familiarly known as Turkish towel, originated in Turkish baths or Hammams during the Victorian era. According to Turkish culture, specific colors, styles and weaves of pestemals are regionally symbolic.
Pestemals are woven textiles produced on looms. Traditionally they were made of Turkish cotton and silk. However, in recent years, other natural fibers, like bamboo cotton and linen, were introduced as well.
They usually have a stripe design with bright colors. Woven textiles naturally fray at the edges during production resulting in loose tassels, which are then tightened by a unique hand rolling method.
These are all qualities and indicative traits of a pestemal. In Turkey, pestemals are the dominant bath towel. They are also a staple for the beach and poolside.
Pestemals are super absorbent and quick drying.
Not to mention, they are lightweight and compact, making them perfect for travel and a real space-saver at home too.
Last, but not least, pestemals are long lasting in that they soften with every wash and get better with use.
Wash before use. Machine wash cold. Tumble dry low/line dry. Do not bleach.
